১৯৯২ সালে অল্প কয়েকটি বিদেশি চ্যানেলের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশে যাত্রা শুরু করে স্যাটেলাইট টেলিভিশন নেটওয়ার্ক ব্যবসা। এরপর একে একে বেশ কিছু দেশি চ্যানেলের অনুমোদন দেয় সরকার। এরপর থেকে দেশি বিদেশি চ্যানেলের মাধ্যমে এই ব্যবসার বিস্তৃতি লাভ করে। আর এসব চ্যানেলে প্রচারিত অনুষ্ঠানমালা দেশের মানুষের দোরগোড়ায় পৌঁছে দেয় কেবল অপারেটররা।

কিন্তু সন্ত্রাসীদের চাঁদাবাজি ও কুচক্রী মহলের ষড়যন্ত্রে এই ব্যবসা হুমকির মুখে, রাজধানীর অফিসার্স ক্লাবে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে এ অভিযোগ করেন বিভিন্ন এলাকা থেকে আসা স্থানীয় কেবল অপারেটররা।

পাশাপাশি ব্যবসা শুরুর ২৪ বছর পেরিয়ে গেলেও শিল্প হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি না মেলায় ব্যাংক ঋণ পেতে সমস্যার কথা জানান তারা। পরে সরকারের কাছে আট দফা দাবি তুলে ধরা হয়।

দেশি চ্যানেল গুলোকে শুরুতে দেখানোর সীমাবদ্ধতার কথা জানান এই ব্যবসায়ী। পাশাপাশি ভারতে বাংলাদেশি চ্যানেল প্রচারে নিজেদের উদ্যোগের কথাও জানান তিনি।

সারা দেশের প্রায় বারোশ কেবল অপারেটর এই সম্মেলনে অংশ নেয়।
